March marked the eighth year that Revere Public School children celebrated music and art in a grand way throughout the city. Teachers and students shared their talents, not only in the halls of their schools but also in the community.  The festivities opened at the Susan B. Anthony on Wednesday, March 12 with an exhibition of artwork and crafts created by students K-12. By combining both programs, youngsters had the opportunity to demonstrate their talents to families and friends.  Isabella Russo, 6th grader at the Rumney Marsh MS received recognition this year as the artist whose colorful collage represented the March on the Arts 2008 celebration and festivities.

Musical performances included the Susan B. Anthony MS Handbell Choir, directed by Donna Burns, the Young Patriots band, directed by Travis Ramsey and a Saxophone duet, directed by Ed Schutte.  Parents were treated to practice in progress performances.  Instrumental students not only were given the opportunity to play selections for the audience but were also able to discuss their understanding of the music and the importance of listening to each as the practiced.

The March on the Arts Celebration is an event where the schools and the community come together in support of the arts.  This year is the fourth year that Revere Public Schools fine arts department entered in partnership with parents and the community.  The focus of 'Revere Community Arts Partnership is to expand programs in the arts and to raise funds for scholarships for Revere students.  Carol Donovan and Eileen Estrich worked with Karen Agnetta, director of Fine Arts to raise funds for the book award given to deserving 5th graders in every elementary school in both music and art.  In Addition, Patty Pace, AVP and Branch Manager of Danversbank donated a check for $1,700 for the eighth year to finance the recorder program for every third graders in each school.

Students at the Susan B. Anthony MS and their teachers Ed Schutte, Eve DelGreco, Alexandra Rizzo-Cerbone and Donna Burns worked with artist, Linda Price-Snedden to create a music visual installation with pipe cleaners and pompoms that is on exhibit in the West Revere Complex library.  The installation titled “Sequence, Rhythm and Change” was made possible through a grant from Target Stores.
