The most effective Early Childhood programs encourage parent participation and involvement in their children's program. Revere's parent involvement program views parents and children as a unit. The growth and enrichment of one family member has a profound effect on the growth and enrichment of another. In Revere's Early Childhood program, parents are encouraged to actively participate in classroom activities with their children and to lend a helping hand. All Early Childhood programs invite parents to participate in a one hour weekly literacy activity in the classroom. |
Parent involvement begins during the first week of the program with a Parent and Child Orientation. Following the orientation, parents can participate in Literacy, Child Development, Social Issues, and Arts & Crafts workshops; Adult Education, Parent and Child Activities, and other Enrichment Programs. Parents can also become a part of the Early Childhood Advisory Council, which meets throughout the school year. As Council members, parents assist in planning and scheduling Early Childhood programs, events, and community activities.
To support the importance of the home and school partnership, Early Childhood program staff send newsletters home to parents. The newsletters describe what children are learning, provide parenting tips on how to support children's growth and development, and feature a calendar of upcoming events.
